Apoy sa Langit (International title: Broken Promise / transl. Fire on Heaven) is a 2022 Philippine television drama romance series broadcast by GMA Network. Directed by Laurice Guillen, it stars Maricel Laxa. It premiered on May 2, 2022 on the network's Afternoon Prime and Sabado Star Power sa Hapon line up replacing Prima Donnas. The series concluded on September 3, 2022 with a total of 105 episodes. It was replaced by Abot-Kamay na Pangarap in its timeslot. Plot Apoy sa Langit is about the story of the lives of the surviving Hidalgo family following the robbery at the El Fuego Mansion in which the widower, Gemma Hidalgo had married Cesar Monasterial as she believes that he was the good samaritan for comforting her over the loss of her husband. This story also involves on empowering women who became victims of manipulation, concubinage and physical and emotional abuse over their partners. Years ago, the wealthy Hidalgo family lives in the El Fuego Mansion and they celebrated the birthday of their only daughter Ning Hidalgo. Her father, Rey Hidalgo gives her a gold necklace filled with pink rhinestones as her birthday gift. That night, they were robbed by two robbers and Ning had recognized the face of the robber until her father was shot dead by him to protect her. In the present day, Rey's wife, Gemma Hidalgo was now widowed and remained sad and upset over the loss of her husband and meets Cesar Monsterial whom she believes he was the good samaritan who helps her to overcome her sadness and later they get married. Unaware to both Gemma and Ning that Cesar whom she marries is in fact one of the robbers who robbed them at the El Fuego mansion along with his uncle, Edong Tayag and the one responsible for murdering her husband Rey. When Stella Fernandez was introduced as the step-daughter to Cesar, they are unaware that Stella is in fact Cesar's mistress and all of the things that Cesar had bought for Gemma had been given to Stella. Both Ning and Blessie had been suspecting about their recent affairs. Gemma's head maid, Lucy Fuerte had discovered their affair and despite informing Gemma, she personally confronts them, leading Cesar to murder her so that no else knew about their affair. As both Gemma and Stella are pregnant for Cesar's unborn child, Cesar ruthlessly warns her never to hurt Gemma because he prefers her baby over her. Despite his warnings, Stella had planned to abort Gemma's baby from Cesar which she had succeeded during the baby shower and Gemma was suffered from miscarriage and abortion when she had a massive fallout with her daughter Ning. This is how both Cesar and Stella begins to manipulate Gemma into fighting Ning and to the point of drugging her with desomorphine putting on her white smoothie to became hostile on both Ning and Blessie and Cesar was the one who posted negative text messages as Ning believes that it was her mother and stealing the company jewelry funds for their own enjoyment as well as kicking Ning to their own house, leading her to stay with her godmother Blessie. Ning and Anthony "Tony" Zulueta, Stella's ex-boyfriend had decided to investigate on their own after they failed to rescue her mother Gemma from their clutches and knowing about Stella and her birth certificate which was own by her aunt Rona De Leon who is a scam artist being abused by her own husband over lack of money. The evil schemes of both Cesar and Stella had finally come to an end when Gemma had discovered their affair when they flirtatiously play themselves and making love within her bedroom since she had heard of their noises when Stella's walkie talkie had been dropped. But thanks to Ning who stopped her from drinking the smoothie filled with desomorphine, she shows the birth certificate and to find out that Stella is not Cesar's step-daughter but his mistress, causing her to get mad filled with rage especially Cesar for causing a marital affair. Both Ning and Anthony had confronted Stella to know the truth about her pregnancy which she doesn't want to admit because of her promise to Cesar never to reveal their relationship but because of Ning's threats, she reveals that her pregnancy is from Cesar's baby which angers Ning for saying about the truth. She soon drags her down to make her admit to Gemma for what she had done. Once confronted by Gemma after she smacks Cesar with an umbrella for his affair with his mistress, Stella admits everything including her pregnancy about Cesar's unborn child causing Gemma to get angry further by smashing the wedding photo frame between her and Cesar and taking out the engagement and wedding rings given to her by Cesar. However, Cesar became angered on Stella for admitting and was defended by Tony upon seeing that Cesar can beat up women he ruthlessly goes to see Gemma again and was chased by Tony. Upon confronting both Gemma and Ning, Gemma had finally had enough of his reasonings and does not accept his apologies for his marital affair with Stella as his mistress which leads Ning and Tony to kick him out of the house since Gemma had thrown his clothes when he fought Tony. Stella arrives with her luggage since she readied her clothes inside the room and both were kicked out of the house. Cesar eventually threatens Stella not to go with him after she had admitted her actions to Gemma, Ning and Tony. Despite leaving Stella behind in anger, Cesar lets her inside of his car and leave the house. In the aftermath of the incident, Gemma apologizes to Blessie for what happened which she accepts and they learned that Cesar has been stealing the company funds from the family's jewelry company when he was given an executive job. Despite the karma they have, both Cesar and Stella was found by Edong and he takes them in to his house. It was soon revealed that Cesar is a gambling addict who gambles money in E-Sabong in order to get large sum of money but always ended up losing as the owner of the E-Sabong which is a mafia group has been hunting him to pay for his debts. Stella also reveals her recent actions because Cesar had preferred Gemma over her that she killed Gemma's baby by abortion. This revelation leads Cesar to physically abuse her by beating her up but was stopped by Edong when he attempted to stab her by a knife causing Stella to leave. It was revealed that Stella learns about the necklace they had robbed in the past and wanted to know who owns this and also caused a ruckus between them. Stella instead goes to her friend Patring Benipayo to take refuge instead of blottering to the police station. Patring also discovers the beatings Stella has on Cesar and tells her that she has to look after the baby without him but she refuses because of her love to Cesar. Ning also had a trauma referring about the robbery incident and also recognize the robber who reveals his face, leading her to get scared upon visiting at the El Fuego Mansion with either Tony or her mother Gemma. Stella is later gets the remnants of the necklace and pink rhinestones being stolen on both. Initially, she wants to sell it to the pawnshop but soon against it because her life was on the line. Meanwhile Tony was shot by Cesar after revealing himself and was hospitalized and comatose. Cesar is later hospitalized and suffered a limp on his left leg from getting brutally beaten and was helped by Stella. It was revealed that Cesar had asked by his uncle Edong in order to pose himself getting beaten brutally by unknown assailants so that Gemma would take him in, since they tried to use the TRO on him but was expired upon learning to them with the authorities. Stella had been seeing his ruse because she knew he was not limp and all he wanted was to get close to Gemma again. Before Tony wakes up from his comatose, Stella gives the sack of remnants of her necklace to Ning which is actually an evidence to expose both Cesar and Edong as the culprits behind the robbery years ago. As soon as Cesar was taken in by Gemma to her house and Ning arrives to see them both and once they eat a snack of blueberry cheesecake, Ning exposes Cesar for all the manipulations he had done to them from the beginning and letting his mistress Stella to go under their noses as well as revealing the evidence by showing the remnants of her necklace they stole from her years ago and the one who murdered her father Rey. Gemma realizes that Cesar was responsible for murdering her husband and knowing he was tricking her all along, a scam artist, a womanizer and a murderer. She beats him down until he breaks his cane to make an improvised knife to put on knife point on Gemma and Ning sees his true actions along with the head security guard Toto. Blessie arrives with the authorities to arrests Cesar. Despite the negotiations, Gemma is able to get free by knocking Cesar's knee with a butter knife causing the latter to escape. At the same time, Edong attacks Stella at Patring's house as Patring had discovered his motives and takes him down before escaping. Gemma could not believe in herself that she marries Rey's murderer and Ning tells her that Cesar was a well trained con artist and wanted to arrests him for the various crimes they did to them. Tony soon awakes from his coma and Ning had already knows the culprit for shooting him and tells him that it was okay. Desperate to get the money, Cesar tried to get Edong's bag which cause a commotion between him and his uncle. But Cesar returns the bag so that he can escape and both had parted to get into hiding. Cesar had nothing more by using his womanizing skills to flirt with women to get money but the news has him on the wanted list, leading him to steal money. Despite Edong's travels back to his family using the remaining stolen funds, he was intercepted and arrested by the authorities and was confronted by Gemma, Ning, Blessie and Tony to reveal their real motives behind the robbery. Stella continues to be blinded in love towards Cesar which results her in a continuous beating, she decided to take the side on Gemma to arrest Cesar while being helped by Patring. Despite the infiltration caused by the authorities, Cesar is nowhere to be found as Cesar himself had already found out Stella's personal motive, He swore revenge over them. Both Gemma and Ning had decided to make new lives but it was ruined when Cesar disguised as a driver to capture them as well as Stella who volunteers to be locked up in prison after revealing her motives to Gemma for aborting her baby from him and apologizing for all the things she had done to them. They are captured by Cesar at the El Fuego Mansion as his actions are finally descended into madness to put a living hell over the three of them and planning to burn the entire mansion. Cesar noticed Stella had her water broke because her pregnancy is now due and he believes she was just acting but she isn't causing both Ning and Gemma to fight Cesar for their lives. Ning briefly fought Cesar to let her mother rescue Stella as Ning accidentally shoots Cesar to his right thigh causing him to scare them evilly to drag Ning out as both Stella and Gemma fought Cesar in a handicap but knocking Stella out while trying to beat Gemma down until Ning stops him. But Cesar is too strong for them until Stella angrily shoots him to his manhood, allowing Gemma and Ning to help Stella to escape the mansion and was found by the authorities including Blessie and Tony and they take Stella to the hospital immediately while the authorities arrests Cesar who is now screaming in anguish from getting shot by Stella. After the incident, Stella later gives birth to a healthy baby boy named Ren-Ren and allowing Gemma and Ning to look after her son who soon serving time in prison for her crime. Later on, the doctors who told Cesar about the operation of his manhood and unabling him not to relive himself and Cesar horribly screams upon seeing his manhood beneath the hospital bed covers. Everyday, Gemma, Ning and Ren-Ren are here to visit Stella so that he will recognize his mother. This also shows the scenes seen the episodes about these incidents are all caused by Cesar. After the verdict, both Cesar and his uncle Edong are finally taken to the New Bilibid Prison to serve their time in life imprisonment for their crimes and the evil caused by them is finally over. Afterwards, both Tony and Ning are finally married. At Rey's grave in the cemetery, They had a picnic as Stella arrives to visit them and to see a grown-up Ren-Ren to reunite with her. She is now accepted by Gemma as a family friend and Ning surprises them that she was pregnant with Tony and Gemma is becoming a grandmother to their child, which overjoys her. Soon after, they take a group family photo as the scene ends.
